This week I’ve tried the new crispies by Tofoo.
This company is known within UK for producing basic and smoked tofu blocks, available in most of supermarkets. In addition this week strolling through the frozen aisle while trying to avoid everyone in 2 m radius , I’ve spotted a new product stacked up in the frozen shelves.
Product seemed like another substitute for fish fingers with white tofu fish covered in carby breading. Although I personally attemptig to avoid carbs (New Year resolutions, eh.?) I thought I will give it a try.
The small green package with vegan trademark consists of 8 pieces that are visually appealing as it’s golden coloured breading shines through even before baking.
The suggested serving size consists of 4 crispies. After 15 minutes bake the colour of crispies has barely changed.
Taste wise the real star is the breading as most of the flavour is packed there. The inside filling is rather bland and taste as regular naked tofu.
Interestingely after cutting the product you can see yellow dye that was used in the breading; resembling turmeric, giving the fake golden brown baking colour to the finished crispies.
overall, I’ll likely to avoid this product due high carb and fat content, but taste wise this is a good breakfast addition for anyone not minding the nutritional value.
